Around 3 lbs of those little buggers live in your gastrointestinal tract, and just as our planet’s soils are productive yet depleted, your gut microbiome is functional but often imbalanced and dysfunctional. No wonder you’re suffering from gas, bloating, acid reflux and even severe conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
To complicate things more, health marketers would have you believe that if you simply take a fiber supplement and eat some probiotic-enriched yogurt, you can correct the mess fast–but the problem is far more complex. Dr. Megan Rossi is a dietitian and nutritionist. She’s a Research Fellow at King’s College London where she investigates nutrition-based therapies in gut health, including prebiotics and probiotics, dietary fibers. Megan is the author of two books, Eat Yourself Healthy and Eat More, Live Well.
